View of bats at McNeil Bridge overpass off I-35 in Round Rock

Did you know we have a flourishing bat colony close by in Round Rock?

During the spring and summer you can enjoy watching the bat colony at the McNeil Bridge overpass leave their roosts and fly over the Texas landscape each dusk.

Beginning April 14th in 2023, each Friday night there will be Texas Master Naturalists at the site to give you background on bats and help you grasp the significance of seeing these bats leave en masse each night. The prime viewing times with the Master Naturalists will be 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Bat Talks will be cancelled if there is rain, although the bats will show up.

If you are interested in participating in the Bat Talks, you should park at the NAPA Auto Parts store at 601 S. I-35 Frontage Road and look for the Bat Talk table.

To learn more about bats and to learn about bat viewing etiquette, go to batcon.org.

Bring bug spray, a hat (think about why you need this!), and comfortable shoes. You may want to bring a chair if you prefer to observe from the parking lot.
